Using Display Ads to Get Initial Traffic for Your Next SaaS Product
Posted
Two weeks ago I started working on a new product called Get Django SaaS.
To get some initial traction and new email subscribers I’ve decided to use CPC Display Ads.
The network I used is called PurpleAds
Here are the results I got:
Impressions | Clicks | Spent | Email Subscribers |
---|---|---|---|
1,190,897 | 47 | $2.35 | 1 |
And here’s the creative I used:
Numbers
I ran this campaign for 5 days.
It generated 1,190,897 impressions which generated 47 clicks.
When you do the math, this means the average CTR (click-through rate) was astronomical 0.00003%.
I want you to take this with a grain of salt because this is my first time running an ad campaign.
I set the max bid to $0.1 since this is supposed to be just top the funnel traffic.
Total spent was $2.35 and I got just 1 new subscriber.
Here’s how it all looks like in PurpleAds dashboard:
Demographic
One cool feature that PurpleAds has is that they segmented countries in Tier 1,2, and 3 with the first being countries like United States, Canada, and Germany and Tier 3 countries would be Zimbabwe or India.
Websites
These are the top 6 websites that brought in the most traffic.
In my humble opinion, not the best traffic out there but what’d I expect for $0.1 CPC on the US and Europe traffic.
Should You Use Display Ads for your next SaaS product?
Maybe.
I’m a developer, not a marketer. I’m not even sure if these are bad results.
Display Ads might be good to get some top of the funnel traffic and then retarget people that clicked through with something more advanced like Facebook or Google ads.
All in all, I paid $2.35 to get a newsletter subscriber for a product I plan to charge a couple of hundred bucks which I think it’s not too shabby.
